The sun shone on a glorious showground at the Ovals Farm, Kington. With showground full of diverse trade stands, the morning started chilly, but by the time the gates opened, the showground was warming up, with the sun shining by lunchtime. The day was set to be exceptional. With the harvest already completed by many local farmers, they came out in force support their local show.
The Kington Show committee, worked exceedingly hard to make the day a success. Nick Layton, chairman of Kington Show, “I would like to thank all the volunteers who have helped the show, all the exhibitors, traders, sponsors and the general public for supporting the show. We really cannot survive without them.”
The Society presented a £500 cheque to Ben Hewitt under the show’s Charitable Grant Scheme (for young people aged 16-26) to help him start up a beekeeping business. Ben, aged 16 is from Bearwood, near Leominster. The Society also presented a cheque for £1000 to St. Michael’s Hospice. This money was raised in August from the proceeds of Summer Ball.
Livestock exhibitor entries were again good with many horses, sheep, cattle and dogs there. With Kington Show being one of the last shows of the year, many feel this is their last chance to show their stock before winter. The grand parade of livestock was a wonderful sight, culminating in the show’s president, Mrs Jenny Dennis judging the Supreme Show animal, choosing between the Champion Horse, Supreme Sheep and Interbreed Cattle Champion. The winner being the Interbreed Cattle champion, a Hereford, owned by.
Kington Show broke the gate record for attendance with the public enjoying the shearing, Interhunt competitions, and other entertainment. The secretary, Clare Edwards. “With strong public support for Kington and the real sense of pride in the community it is a showcase of everything that our diverse and successful county has to offer.” Next year’s Kington Show will be on Saturday 12th September 2015.
A traditional agricultural show with Horses, Cattle, Sheep & Poultry classes culminating with a Grand Parade of Livestock. There will be Dog and Horticultural classes together with Young Farmers and Shearing competitions. There will be something for everyone, even an after show dance. The Carcase
Competition has been a huge success with many of the carcases being auctioned for sale later on in the day, and there will be someone on hand to butcher the carcase into smaller joints.
There will be nearly 200 trade stands at the event, with many local producers, arts and crafts, food, tools, toys, clothes, tractors to name just a few!
